29-year old man arraigned over alleged possession of illicit drugs

A 29-year-old man, Olanipekun Adisa, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of illicit drugs.
Adisa, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of possession of illicit drugs.
The prosecutor, Insp Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 3, at about 05.40 p.m. in Erio-Ekiti.
Adejare alleged that the defendant had in his possession weeds suspected to be illicit drugs.
He said the offence contravened Section 5 (b) of the Indian Hemp Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Femi Olarewaju, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until April 28 for hearing.
