Niger Governor Bago Admits He Lied About Paying Graduates N500,000 To Attract Investors

The Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has confessed that he lied about paying graduate assistants N500,000 on his farms to attract investors.
Bago had said during the World Food Day celebration in Lagos State on October 16, that he paid graduate assistants N500,000 to work in his farm.
The governor had claimed he built farm communities in his farm estates and that other land would be cleared and partitioned based on need and capacity.
He added that the inhabitants of the areas would still work on the farms but live in farm estates.
He concluded that promoting the development of farms was necessary to attract investment.
The governor confessed while interrogating a student activist, Isah Mokwa at the Government House on Friday that his statement about paying graduate assistants N500,000 was intended to attract investors.
A source said that the governor personally ordered the prosecution of Mokwa, a master’s degree student at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, who is a known critic of the Bago administration and frequently refers to the governor as “Governor Amunike.”
SaharaReporters gathered that Mokwa was taken to the governor, interrogated, and thereafter charged with cybercrimes, cyberbullying, and potentially thuggery and terrorism.
The source added that Mokwa might not likely be released soon because of orders from above.
