The proposed #ComeToKiribo2026 swimming contest has ignited lively nationwide reactions after activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore threw open a daring challenge: Is there anyone in Nigeria who can swim half a mile in Kiribo Lake for ₦1 million?
Almost instantly, social media lit up with bold declarations, playful banter, and spirited tribal pride.
One enthusiastic responder declared, “Swimming is one of my hobbies… I’m coming to Kiribo Lake to grab the 1 million. I can even swim up to a mile except for the fear of crocodiles. I mean it.”
Others, however, were not ready to risk their futures for thrills.“Lol… I can’t try this. I must witness the 2027 general election,” one commenter joked, highlighting concerns about the lake’s safety.
While some insisted they were up for the challenge—provided the waters were free of “harmful animals or fish”—others applauded the initiative, calling it a refreshing idea to unite young people.
Tribal pride also surfaced in the conversation:“Ijaw no dey carry last… Okrika especially,” wrote one user, while another chimed in from Anambra West:“Anam ooo, I dey active! All the Ijaw and riverine community brethren, where art thou? Make una commot come swim oo!”
Many expressed admiration for Sowore’s youth-centered activism, even if they couldn’t be physically present.“I believe Sowore to give youths the best, unfortunately I am not in the venue,” someone wrote.
But perhaps the boldest statement came from a commenter who dramatically boasted:“I can swim across the Atlantic Ocean.”
As anticipation builds, one question remains:Who will be the brave champion to conquer Kiribo Lake for ₦1 million?
