Wike Faults Slow Pace of Abuja Judges’ Quarters, Court of Appeal Projects, Reaffirms Tinubu’s Commitment to Judicial Reforms

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work at the ongoing construction of the Judges’ Quarters and the Court of Appeal Complex in Abuja, describing the overall progress as “below the level required for a project of such national importance.”
Wike stated this on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the two projects, where he assessed various sections of the construction sites. While noting that some areas showed satisfactory progress, he stressed that the entire project must reflect the urgency and significance attached to strengthening the judiciary.
According to the minister, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu considers a conducive working environment for judicial officers fundamental to public trust in the justice system.
“For President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, creating a conducive environment for judges is essential for sustaining public confidence in the justice system. If you don’t have confidence in the judiciary, you cannot be sure of the future of our democracy,” Wike said.
He added that the administration’s focus is not merely on infrastructure but on reinforcing the integrity and effectiveness of the judiciary.
“What we are doing is creating the right environment for the judiciary so that our judges can put in their best and maintain public trust in their work,” he noted.
Wike further assured that President Tinubu’s government remains committed to improving the welfare and infrastructure of the judiciary as part of broader democratic reforms.
The ongoing projects, once completed, are expected to ease accommodation challenges faced by judges, enhance the efficiency of appellate court operations, and improve overall judicial service delivery in the FCT.
