Bauchi Under Tension: One Killed, Five Nabbed After Dramatic Farm–Herders Clash

The peace of Zaki Local Government Area in Bauchi State was shattered on 26 November 2025, after a violent confrontation erupted between farmers and a group of herders alleged to have trespassed onto community farmland, destroying cultivated crops and sparking outrage among residents.
According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the clash, which occurred around 1100 hours, resulted in the death of one herder and the arrest of five suspects believed to be connected to the retaliatory violence.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakil, described the incident as a serious breach of peace triggered by the reported encroachment and destruction of agricultural produce.
> “This regrettable act precipitated a confrontation between the herders and community members, during which one herder was killed,” Wakil said.
Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of Zaki Division, SP Iliya Dogo, reportedly deployed a team of detectives to the scene. Police operatives swiftly made arrests and began a preliminary investigation into the circumstances leading to the fatal clash.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has now ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for a more comprehensive probe.
The Command assured the public that vigilant security surveillance has been mounted in the affected area to prevent any form of reprisal attack, stressing that calm has been restored.
> “All suspects in custody will be profiled and charged before the court with the relevant offences,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner appealed to residents to maintain peace, avoid taking laws into their own hands, and allow investigators to uncover the full truth behind the deadly confrontation.
