Breaking: Governor Adeleke Finally Dumps PDP, Cites Deep Frustrations With Party Leadership

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), confirming weeks of intense speculation and political suspense. The dramatic exit marks one of the most significant defections ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a brief statement released Monday evening, Adeleke said he was left with “no choice” but to walk away from the party under which he rose to power, accusing the PDP leadership of “persistent internal sabotage, toxic infighting, and deliberate attempts to undermine the will of Osun people.”
According to the governor, his decision followed “months of reflection and countless efforts” to resolve deepening internal crises within the party, all of which he said were met with “hostility and entrenched resistance.”
“I cannot continue in a political environment where progress is held hostage by personal interests and where genuine governance is constantly disrupted by internal conspiracies,” Adeleke stated.
He added that his focus remains “firmly on delivering development to the people of Osun State without distractions or political chains.”
Adeleke, who has not yet announced his next political destination, hinted that consultations are ongoing and that his supporters would be informed “in due course.”
The shock move is already sending ripples across national political circles, with analysts predicting a major realignment in the Southwest ahead of the next general election.
Meanwhile, PDP sources—many caught completely off-guard—have begun crisis meetings as the party braces for the fallout of losing one of its most prominent governors.
