By Passman Akpos

Anxiety, confusion and fear have gripped the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) community and Veritas University following disturbing reports of the alleged kidnapping of a young female student while travelling home for the Christmas holidays.

According to multiple WhatsApp messages circulating among students and colleagues, Praise Idesimi, a 100-level Nursing student of Veritas University and a beneficiary of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, was reportedly abducted on her way to Benin on Tuesday day evening.

WhatsApp chat by her friends

The alarming information first emerged from a distressed message shared by one of her colleagues, stating that Praise had gone silent during her journey and could no longer be reached. Within minutes, panic spread across student platforms as fellow course mates desperately sought confirmation of her whereabouts.

A colleague from her department later confirmed the troubling development, citing a phone conversation involving a close associate identified as Divine.

> “From the call she had with Divine, yes, she had been kidnapped,” the message read.

Further deepening the fear, another update revealed that the family of the victim had allegedly been contacted by the abductors, who reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦15 million for her release.

> “Her family have also been contacted by the kidnappers for a ransom of 15 million,” the message added.

As of the time of filing this report, Praise Idesimi has not been released, and there has been no official statement from security agencies or the management of Veritas University. The Presidential Amnesty Programme authorities are also yet to publicly react to the disturbing development.

The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concern over student safety, holiday travel risks, and rising insecurity, especially for young Nigerians commuting across states. Social media platforms are already flooded with prayers, appeals and calls for urgent intervention by security operatives and relevant authorities.

Students and concerned Nigerians are urging anyone with credible information that could aid her rescue to speak up, while also calling on security agencies to act swiftly to prevent another tragic outcome.
