COAS, CDS, and Service Chiefs Attend Launch of “Thank A Soldier” QR Code Platform

By Paul Ebi

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, today joined the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and other Service Chiefs at the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, for the official launch of the “Thank A Soldier” QR Code, a new digital platform introduced by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Defence.

The initiative, unveiled by the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, during a press conference in Abuja, enables Nigerians both at home and abroad to send personalized messages of appreciation to serving military personnel and pay tributes to fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in service to the nation.

According to the Minister, the platform reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the bond between the Armed Forces and the public while fostering a culture of gratitude and national unity.

> “Our soldiers continue to defend the integrity of our nation with courage and sacrifice. This platform gives every Nigerian a chance to say ‘thank you’ in a meaningful way,” Badaru stated.

The launch of the QR code also marks the official commencement of activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD), a period dedicated to honoring the courage, patriotism, and sacrifices of Nigeria’s military personnel.

General Shaibu, in his remarks, commended the initiative, noting that morale-boosting gestures such as these strengthen the resolve of troops deployed across various operational theatres.

The event was attended by top military officials, representatives of veterans’ associations, members of the diplomatic corps, and other dignitaries, signaling a renewed national commitment to appreciating the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
