COAS Decorates Army Image-Maker As Colonel, Says Public Confidence Now Critical To National Security

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, witnessed a symbolic moment of recognition and professional advancement as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu Nigerian Army Medal, officially decorated the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, with the prestigious rank of Colonel.
The brief yet dignified ceremony held at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, highlighted Colonel Anele’s sterling record of service, dedication and professionalism in projecting the Nigerian Army’s image with strategic competence and clarity.
Speaking on behalf of the COAS, the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, commended Colonel Anele for her unwavering commitment to service, urging her to continue promoting accountability, professionalism, and ethical communication within the Directorate of Army Public Relations.
He emphasized that public trust remains a vital enabler of successful military operations, stressing that the Army must continue to engage citizens transparently, credibly and in real time to strengthen national confidence in the Armed Forces.
“The importance of effective strategic communication cannot be overstated,” he noted, charging the Directorate to deepen its efforts in transparent public engagement, media relations and timely dissemination of accurate information on Army activities.
The COAS also tasked the newly decorated Colonel to uphold the highest standards of discipline, loyalty and mentorship in directing her subordinates to enhance the productivity and efficiency of the Directorate.
Expressing profound gratitude in her remarks, Colonel Appolonia Anele thanked Almighty God, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff for their visionary leadership and consistent support which she described as pivotal to her professional journey within the Nigerian Army.
The event drew attendance from notable dignitaries including former Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman Kukasheka (Rtd) mni; Colonel Mustapha Anka (Rtd) mni; senior officers serving and retired; as well as family members, friends and well-wishers who turned out to celebrate her career milestone.
