Communal Crisis: Bayelsa LGA Chairman Issues Executive order, promise severe punishment for defaulters

The Ekeremor Local Government Chairman, of Bayelsa state, Hon. Onniye Isaac Ziminiyain yesterday in the Local Government council, issued an executive order,directing every Community or Village in the Local Government to submit full details of Candidates for any elective position and promised defaulters to face the wrath of the law.
The order that was labeled order 1, signed on the 20th of January 2025 of the Ekeremor Local Government Area, is in a bid to prevent comuninal Crisis emanating from the conduct of election in the Communities and villages that made up the local government.
Recall, The Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area, Hon. Onniye Isaac has issued a strong warning to youths engaging in violence to disrupt community elections and cause communal crises.
Speaking during his visit to the Paramount Ruler of Ayamasa Community, HRH Oyaseiye Tuburu Moses, Hon. Onniye condemned the recent attack on the traditional ruler.
The attack occurred following a youth election screening intended to determine the next youth president of Ayamasa Community. The perpetrators reportedly attacked the Paramount Ruler’s residence, burned his personal vehicle, and caused significant damage to his palace.
Describing the actions as unacceptable and destructive, Hon. Onniye assured the community that his administration would identify those responsible and ensure they are held accountable under the law. He emphasized that the government would not tolerate such acts of violence and disrespect toward traditional and legal authorities.
Hon. Onniye also used the occasion to caution youths against using violence during community elections, noting that such actions often escalate into broader communal crises.
He revealed that his office has received several security reports on similar incidents stemming from leadership disputes across communities in the local government area.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to combating criminal activities, Hon. Onniye promised to bring any individuals involved in any disruptive actions to justice.
According to the top man of Ekeremor Local Government Area, “In a bid to prevent comuninal Crisis emanating from the conduct of election of;
1. Amanaowei
2. Community Development Committee (CDC)
3. Youth Executive
4. Women Executive
5. Trustees of Petroleum Industry Board and all related bodies in any Community or Village in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, is hereby ordered as follows:
1. Every Community or Village in Ekeremor Local Government Area shall submit the Candidates of the above bodies thier full details to:
(a) The Council Chairman
(b) The Area Commnader
(c) The DPO
(d) DSS
(e) Commander, Civil Defence
All of Ekeremor Local Government Area
2. Failure to adhere to this Executive Order shall face the wrath of the law”
