The renegade soldiers, described as mutineers, stormed and seized the National Television Headquarters after failing to penetrate the heavily fortified residence of President Talon. Their failed assault sent shockwaves across the West African nation, sparking widespread panic and confusion.
But in a swift counter-operation, Benin’s National Guard regained control, surrounding the television station and cutting off escape routes. The once-confident mutineers are now trapped inside the building like cornered animals.
Reports filtering in through Cotonou’s buzzing media space reveal that intense negotiations are currently underway with the holed-up mutineers, following the intervention of security officials determined to avoid bloodshed.
According to 24 Hours In Benin, frantic discussions are being held as the National Guard presses the rebellious soldiers to surrender and face the consequences of their abortive power grab.
