Governor Zulum condoles President Tinubu over Lagbaja’s death
Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has expressed his condolences over the death of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Let.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja to President Bola Tinubu, the Armed Forces and the deceased family.
The governor’s Special Adviser, Media, Dauda IIiya, in a statement on Wednesday in Maiduguri, quoted Zulum as describing the death of Lagbaja as “a profound loss to the country. “
“General Lagbaja’s leadership qualities were inspirational. He consistently motivated troops with his presence at the frontline, showing unwavering commitment to securing the nation,” the governor said.
Highlighting Lagbaja’s impactful contributions, Zulum said the deceased was a “quintessential infantry General” who played a pivotal role in restoring stability across multiple regions, including the northeast through Operation Hadin Kai.
“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, I extend my deepest condolences to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the bereaved family during this difficult time.”
He also recalled the historic 2023 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference, which Borno State had the honor of hosting under Lagbaja’s leadership.
The governor said that the conference led to strategic decisions in counter-insurgency operations, bringing relative peace to Borno State and the wider region.
He also commended the success of Operation Desert Sanity and Operation Lake Sanity under his leadership for diminishing the capabilities of Boko Haram in Sambisa Forest and Lake Chad.
Zulum offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Lagbaja’s soul and the strength for his family to bear the loss.
