Kano Police Sanusi II From Holding Eid-El-Fitr Durbar Festivities Over Security Concerns
The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori stated that credible intelligence reports indicated plans by miscreants to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities. Consequently, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other stakeholders, the decision was made to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state.
This development follows heightened tensions stemming from an ongoing emirship dispute between Emir Aminu Ado Bayero and Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, both of whom have laid claim to the Kano throne.
The Durbar festival, a significant cultural event featuring horse riding, car racing, and other festivities, is traditionally held during Eid celebrations. The police have urged residents to comply with the ban and have assured that adequate security measures are in place to ensure the safety of Eid prayers at designated grounds.
