Residents of Sagamu, Ogun State, have expressed outrage after popular street entertainer, DJ Chicken, was allegedly “pampered” by his friends following a serious accident in which he reportedly knocked down an okada rider and a female passenger while driving under the influence.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred late Friday night around the Ijoku area of Sagamu, when DJ Chicken, said to be intoxicated, lost control of his vehicle and rammed into a commercial motorcycle carrying a lady. Both victims were said to have sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital by bystanders.
However, videos circulating on social media showed some Sagamu youths, identified as DJ Chicken’s associates, consoling and “pampering” him shortly after the crash instead of reprimanding him or assisting the victims. The clip sparked anger online, with many Nigerians condemning what they described as the “glorification of reckless behavior.”
One witness told reporters, “Instead of calling the police or ensuring the victims got help, his boys were busy shouting ‘DJ Chicken, no worry, we dey your back!’ They were even giving him water and fanning him like he was the one injured.”
As of press time, the condition of the injured okada rider and the lady remains unclear. Authorities in Ogun State are yet to issue an official statement, but residents have called on the police to investigate the incident and ensure justice for the victims.
DJ Chicken, known for his controversial online antics and street performances, has been in the news multiple times for disorderly conduct. Critics have urged celebrities and influencers to set better examples, warning that repeated acts of recklessness could lead to more tragic outcomes.
