A wave of grief has swept through parts of the Niger Delta following the sudden death of Mr. Ekenwan Akwagbe, fondly described by admirers as the “Ijaw Wole Soyinka,” in the early hours of Thursday, April 9.
The heartbreaking announcement was made by his younger brother, Okporu Ebi Augustine, who revealed that the family is struggling to come to terms with the painful loss.
“In the early hours of today, April 9th, I lost my eldest brother, Mr. Ekenwan Akwagbe, to the cold hands of death. This is an incredibly difficult and painful moment for me and my entire family,” Augustine said in an emotional statement.
He described the late Akwagbe as a pillar of strength whose passing has left a void too deep for words to capture. “Accepting this loss feels almost impossible… his passing has left a deep void in our hearts,” he added.
News of his death quickly spread across social circles, triggering an outpouring of condolences, shock, and disbelief from friends, associates, and well-wishers.
