“VDM Softens Stance as ‘BLord’ Eyes Bail — Sowore Called Out, Boniface Steps In Amid Explosive Cybercrime Case”

By Passman Akpos

ABUJA, NIGERIA — A dramatic twist has emerged in the ongoing cybercrime case involving social media personality popularly known as B Lord, as influencer Martins Vincent Otse (VDM) signals a possible shift in position ahead of a crucial bail hearing.

In a strongly worded statement circulating online, VDM revealed that nearly two weeks after B Lord was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre, efforts by activist Omoyele Sowore to allegedly “discontinue” the case have fallen flat.

VDM openly criticized Sowore, stating that despite bold public claims, the activist has gone silent in recent days and lacks the authority to halt criminal proceedings.

“Now that we all have seen that Sowore does not have the power to discontinue the case like he claimed… we will go further to make it easy by not opposing his bail tomorrow,” VDM stated.Boniface’s Intervention and Legal Pressure Mounts

Adding a new layer to the controversy, Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface is said to have personally intervened, reaching out in respect to the case. According to VDM, this, along with appeals from other influential figures, influenced his decision not to oppose bail.

Meanwhile, B Lord’s legal team has reportedly intensified efforts behind the scenes, seeking an amicable resolution. His lawyer, VDM disclosed, has distanced himself from media appearances made by Sowore and others, claiming those actions were taken without his knowledge.

Background: A High-Stakes Cybercrime Trial

The development comes against the backdrop of a high-profile trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where B Lord faces serious allegations including identity theft, impersonation, and cyber fraud.

As earlier reported, prosecutors allege that B Lord impersonated VDM online, using his identity to promote a flight booking platform and mislead the public—actions said to violate provisions of the Cybercrimes Act.

Legal experts have consistently emphasized that once criminal proceedings are initiated by the state, no individual—including activists—has the legal power to unilaterally withdraw the case.

Bail, But Not Freedom

While VDM’s latest position may ease B Lord’s immediate path to bail, legal analysts caution that this does not end the case. The defendant is still expected to face trial, with potential penalties—including up to seven years imprisonment—if convicted.

Public Reactions Intensify

The case continues to stir intense reactions across Nigeria’s digital space, with debates ranging from abuse of online identity to the growing influence of public figures in legal matters.

For many observers, the unfolding drama underscores a deeper question: Who truly controls the narrative—and the law—in Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital era?

As the court prepares to rule on bail, all eyes remain fixed on Abuja in what could become a defining moment for cybercrime enforcement in the country.
