Kaduna, Nigeria — The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has withdrawn a corps member, Oyaje Daniel, from his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) at Judeen International School, Annex Section, Mando, following widespread criticism over a controversial online comment he allegedly made about teenage female students.
Daniel, who is serving in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was summoned before the NYSC State Disciplinary Committee, where he appeared alongside his CDS President. He was also accompanied by the Alumni President of his college, Comr. Philip Ayuba Bobai, and activist John Adesogan during a follow-up engagement at the NYSC Kaduna Headquarters.
Officials present described Daniel as “sober, remorseful, and visibly affected” by the scrutiny surrounding his online comment.
NYSC Takes Disciplinary Action
The NYSC has instituted several measures pending the conclusion of its investigation:
Immediate withdrawal from Judeen International School
Redeployment to NYSC Kaduna Headquarters for the remainder of his service year
Daily mandatory reporting to the office
Denial of accommodation privileges at the headquarters
Deployment of an investigative panel to his former PPA to verify if any misconduct occurred beyond the online post
Monitoring of other corps members who made similar comments online for possible sanctions
NYSC officials reiterated the scheme’s zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate behavior, especially actions that could compromise student safety or tarnish the Corps’ reputation.
School Notifies Parents
Judeen International School issued an official communication on 17 November 2025, informing parents of the incident. The school stated that the corps member’s comment—described as “obscene and unacceptable”—prompted immediate action in line with its safeguarding policies.
The management assured parents that the teacher had been removed from the school, adding:“Safety, well-being, and dignity for our students remain of utmost importance.”
Daniel Issues Public Apology
In a separate statement, Daniel issued an apology addressing the controversy. He described his comment as “unwise, hurtful, and unguided,” insisting he is not involved in any form of abuse and does not pose a danger to students.
He wrote:
“I retract the comment entirely. I am a law-abiding citizen committed to community development and gender equity. I am not a rapist or a perpetrator of abuse.”
He also thanked his former PPA for the opportunity to serve and expressed readiness to accept the consequences.
NYSC Cautions Corps Members on Social Media Conduct
NYSC officials emphasized that the case should serve as a warning to other corps members about the implications of irresponsible social media behavior. They stressed that the scheme will not hesitate to sanction any member whose actions bring disrepute to the Corps or endanger the communities they serve.
