Nigeria was once again plunged into mourning on Wednesday as veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) delivered an emotionally charged public statement following yet another violent attack—this time on a church community in Kwara State. His words, raw with grief and frustration, have intensified the national conversation about insecurity, religiously targeted violence, and government accountability.
RMD, reacting to the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls and the murder of a school vice principal just days earlier, lamented that the latest church attack felt like “another wound to our collective soul.” He referenced the recent teachings of Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, describing them as a “weight on my chest that words can barely hold,” insisting that the crisis facing Christian communities in the North and Middle Belt can no longer be downplayed or ignored.
“What happened in Kwara is not just another headline,” he wrote. “Innocent people, gathered in peace, met violence they did not deserve. And for what? For practicing their faith? For daring to seek God in a country that claims to value freedom?”
