A heated social media debate has erupted after Nigerian content creator King Mitchy publicly apologized to outspoken activist VeryDarkMan, triggering backlash and fierce arguments among supporters and critics online.
The controversy began when Ossai Ovie Success, a Delta State political aide known for frequent commentary on trending issues, openly criticized Mitchy’s decision to apologize to VeryDarkMan. In a strongly worded post, Ossai said he was “highly disappointed,” insisting the apology was unnecessary and accusing the activist of previously insulting Mitchy’s benefactor.
According to Ossai, Mitchy should have stood her ground rather than extend an apology to someone he described as a “bitter soul who wished her failure.” He further claimed that Nigerians who supported Mitchy during the controversy deserved an apology more than VeryDarkMan.
However, the criticism quickly sparked a massive backlash online, with many Nigerians defending Mitchy’s decision and accusing Ossai of trying to prolong a conflict that had already been resolved.
Several social media users argued that apologizing does not necessarily mean admitting defeat but rather choosing peace over prolonged drama. Others described Mitchy’s move as a sign of maturity and wisdom.
One commenter wrote that “sometimes taking responsibility and choosing peace shows maturity,” adding that VeryDarkMan, known for his blunt and confrontational style, should not always be turned into the center of public attacks.
Another user argued that Mitchy, being directly involved in the dispute, understood the situation better than outside commentators. “He who wears the shoe knows where it pinches,” the commenter said, stressing that the content creator had every right to decide how to resolve the issue.
Some critics also accused Ossai of repeatedly targeting VeryDarkMan in his posts in order to generate engagement online, while others simply urged both sides to let the matter rest.
Despite the criticism, a few voices supported Ossai’s position, saying they were also surprised by Mitchy’s apology and believed the influencer had been unfairly attacked in the past.
