In a bold legislative stride aimed at transforming rural communities and accelerating economic development, the Bayelsa State House of Assembly has passed the Rural Access Authority Bill and the Rural Road Fund Bill 2025.
The legislative victory—engineered by Hon. Werinipre Pamoh, representing Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 1, alongside other lawmakers—marks a major milestone in the state’s mission to open up rural areas through reliable infrastructure
The new laws will birth a Rural Access Authority to supervise the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of rural road networks, while a Rural Road Fund will ensure dedicated and sustained financing of these strategic projects.
According to lawmakers, the initiative will significantly enhance agricultural productivity by easing the transportation of goods from remote farming communities to urban markets. Rural residents are equally expected to gain improved access to health facilities, schools, and essential services.
