By Passman Akpos

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Samuel Ogbuku, has led the commission’s management team on a condolence visit to the Bayelsa State Government and the Ewhrudjakpo family following the passing of the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

Dr Ogbuku said the visit underscored the strong partnership and cordial relationship that has existed over the years between the NDDC and the Bayelsa State Government, as well as other governors of the Niger Delta region.

He described the late Deputy Governor as a public servant of outstanding dedication who distinguished himself in every office he held. According to him, Ewhrudjakpo made notable contributions to infrastructure development during his tenure as Commissioner for Works in Bayelsa State and served diligently as Senator representing Bayelsa West in the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

As a mark of respect and solidarity with Bayelsa State during the mourning period, Dr Ogbuku announced that the NDDC had postponed the commissioning of the 650-bed hostel complex at the Niger Delta University, Ammassoma. He said the decision was taken to honour the memory of a leader who devoted his life to public service.

Dr Ogbuku extended his condolences to the Governor of Bayelsa State, the Ewhrudjakpo family, and the people of the state, noting that the late Deputy Governor lived a selfless life defined by service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the common good.
