YENAGOA – Tragedy struck the Bayelsa State Government House on Thursday, December 11, 2025, as Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo was confirmed dead after collapsing in his office and being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa. A reliable hospital source told Tarakirivoice that Ewhrudjakpo was already deceased by the time he arrived at the medical facility.
According to preliminary reports, the 60-year-old deputy governor slumped suddenly around 1:30 pm while attending to official duties in his Government House office. Emergency responders and aides immediately transported him to FMC, where doctors reportedly pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.
Initial Collapse Sparks Panic
Earlier in the afternoon, residents and government staff were thrown into a state of shock as news spread that Senator Ewhrudjakpo had collapsed and been taken to intensive care. Eyewitnesses described a scene of urgency, with security operatives quickly sealing off the hospital perimeter to control access.
Sources at the hospital had initially indicated he was being stabilised in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with speculation that the incident may have been linked to a cardiac emergency.
State Officials Respond; Confirmation of Death
Top Bayelsa government officials were reported to have visited FMC following the collapse, but the deputy governor’s media team did not immediately respond to inquiries when the earlier health scare was unfolding.
In the hours that followed, multiple national news outlets confirmed that Senator Ewhrudjakpo had died, citing sources within the hospital and state government.
