Hidden Hands In Nigeria’s Bloodshed? — Sheikh Gumi Drops Bombshell, Fingers Foreign Powers In Renewed Terror Surge

By Passman Akpos

Prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Mahmoud Gumi, has ignited a political firestorm after declaring that Nigeria’s unending insecurity nightmare may be linked to covert support from powerful foreign nations.

In a hard-hitting interview with the BBC Hausa Service, monitored in Kaduna, Gumi asserted that recent coordinated attacks across the country bear markings of external strategic influence, suggesting that Nigeria’s security crisis is not merely a domestic affair.

According to the firebrand cleric, the security situation appeared to be improving earlier this year before a mysterious resurgence of violence plunged communities back into terror.

He cited the Abuja–Kaduna highway—once a death trap where motorists feared to travel—which had become significantly safer, only to witness a sudden uptick in deadly ambushes and kidnappings once again.

Gumi further highlighted the case of Birnin Gwari farmers, who had courageously returned to their farmlands after years of abandonment due to banditry. Their renewed agricultural activities, he said, were proof of a stabilising security environment—until the sudden wave of fresh attacks shattered hope.

“These patterns raise serious doubts,” Gumi insisted, warning that the abrupt reversal from security gains to rampant bloodshed cannot be explained away as coincidence.

He urged the Federal Government to step up high-level intelligence operations, strengthen diplomatic channels, and probe every suspected foreign link capable of fueling chaos in Nigeria.

Gumi’s eyebrow-raising remarks have left many Nigerians asking the same burning question:

Who is benefiting from Nigeria’s insecurity—and why now?
