LOGMA 2025: Hon. Onniye Isaac Bags Award for Best Performing Local Government Chairman on Education in Nigeria

Abuja, Nigeria — In a ceremony held in the nation’s capital, the Executive Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area (Bayelsa State), Onniye Isaac Ziminiyain, has been officially conferred with the prestigious Award of “Best Performing Local Government Chairman on Education in Nigeria (2025)” at the 24th edition of the Local Government Merit Award (LOGMA) 2025.
According to organisers of LOGMA, the award recognises Chairmen who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to educational development at the grassroots level, including improving school infrastructure, boosting student outcomes, and fostering accountability in local education governance. Previous editions of the award have similarly spotlighted local government chairmen who excel in service delivery and grassroots leadership.
In his remarks upon receiving the award, Chairman Onniye Isaac thanked the good people of Ekeremor LGA for their support, stating that the honour belongs not only to him but to every teacher, parent and community stakeholder who has participated in raising the standard of education in the area. He pledged to redouble efforts and ensure that the recognition is translated into sustained educational outcomes for children in the council.
Officials from LOGMA said that the selection process involved rigorous reviews of field reports, public opinion polls, and media-nominations, aiming to ensure the integrity and credibility of the award.
Governor’s office in Bayelsa State formally congratulated Chairman Onniye, calling the achievement “a proud moment for Ekeremor, Bayelsa State and indeed Nigeria’s local government sector” and reaffirming the state’s ongoing support for grassroots education reforms.
