The Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress has declared that Nigeria is making steady progress under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, citing economic, infrastructural and human capital achievements across the country.
The group made this position known in a statement read at a press conference held on Monday in Port Harcourt by its leader, Mr George Sekibo. The statement was co-signed by the Director-General of the Congress, Mr Rowland Sekibo, and its Secretary, Mr Erastus Awortu.
According to the group, President Tinubu has placed Nigeria on a clear path of growth and development, particularly through policies aimed at expanding cross-country commerce and strengthening medium and small-scale enterprises.
Mr Sekibo said the president’s performance so far justifies a second term in office, stressing that continuity is necessary to consolidate the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This is critical for the consolidation of the Renewed Hope Agenda. It is the collective decision of the Rivers Ijaw people to urge the president to declare his intention for re-election,” he said.
He explained that the decision followed extensive deliberations and a careful review of the president’s achievements in human capital development, economic reforms and infrastructure delivery.
“On behalf of the Rivers Ijaw people, we hereby proudly adopt President Bola Tinubu as our presidential candidate come 2027,” Mr Sekibo added.
The group noted that a second term would ensure sustainability and the consolidation of key policies and projects already initiated by the administration.
Highlighting specific benefits to Rivers State, Mr Sekibo pointed to the establishment of the University of Environment and Technology, the completion of the Bodo–Bonny Road, and the ongoing rehabilitation of the East–West Road as clear evidence of President Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of the Rivers people.
He also commended the president for appointing no fewer than 30 indigenes of Rivers State into positions of authority within his administration.
The Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress reaffirmed its support for the Tinubu administration, expressing confidence that continued leadership would deliver greater dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
