YENAGOA — Tension gripped the Bayelsa State capital on Thursday afternoon as Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo reportedly collapsed in his office and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, sparking widespread panic.
Eyewitnesses at the scene described the deputy governor as being in serious condition when emergency responders swiftly transported him to the hospital’s emergency unit around 1:30 pm.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo is currently stabilized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), according to hospital sources. While no official explanation has been provided, insiders suggest the health scare may be linked to a cardiac issue, with one source commenting, “He’s a workaholic; he should find time to rest.”
Security operatives have cordoned off FMC, preventing public access, while top government officials reportedly visited to express their concern. Attempts to reach the deputy governor’s media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, were unsuccessful.
Hospital insiders assured that Ewhrudjakpo is receiving the best possible care and remains stable, leaving Bayelsa residents anxiously awaiting further updates on the fate of their deputy governor.
