APC Got It, AAC Wants It Too! Sowore’s Party Writes Tinubu, Demands Aso Rock For 2027 Campaign Event

By Passman Akpos
ABUJA — The African Action Congress (AAC) has written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requesting permission to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, on November 11, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, the AAC also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected to attend the proposed event from within Nigeria and abroad.
The request places the Tinubu administration before a question of political inclusiveness and equal access to public facilities as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 elections.
AAC Cites Multiparty Democracy, Demands Equal Treatment
In the letter addressed to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the AAC said its request was guided by the principles of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties.
The party stated that granting its request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness and ensure that public institutions serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination.
The AAC also cited arrangements reportedly extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement, arguing that its request should receive fair consideration.
However, the claim concerning the APC arrangement was presented by the AAC and has not been independently established in the material accompanying its letter.
Sowore’s 2027 Presidential Ambition
The proposed inauguration is intended to formally launch the AAC’s Presidential Campaign Council for its candidate, Omoyele Sowore, as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sowore, a political activist and publisher, has remained a prominent figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics through his advocacy for political and institutional reforms.
The AAC’s request to use the Presidential Villa for a campaign-related event is likely to attract public attention, particularly because the facility is the seat of the nation’s executive power and is closely associated with the incumbent President.
The letter, however, is a request for approval and logistical assistance; it does not establish that the Presidency has granted permission or agreed to provide the requested support.
Food, Drinks And Logistics For 5,000 Participants
Beyond the proposed venue, the party is seeking provisions for 5,000 people expected to participate in the inauguration.
The requested assistance includes food, drinks and other logistical arrangements for attendees coming from Nigeria and abroad.
The letter did not provide a detailed breakdown of the anticipated costs or specify the precise logistical services being requested beyond those listed.
This aspect of the request could generate further questions about the use of public resources for party political activities, including the applicable approval procedures, funding arrangements and conditions governing access to the Presidential Villa.
Whether the Presidency will consider the request under existing rules for the use of government facilities and public resources remains to be seen.
AAC Challenges Tinubu Administration On Fairness
The party maintained that approval would demonstrate the administration’s commitment to equal access and political fairness.
It also requested information about the procedures and conditions applicable to the proposed event.
The letter concluded with an appeal for favourable consideration, leaving the decision to the Presidency.
As the 2027 election cycle approaches, the response could become part of a broader public discussion about how government institutions treat political parties outside the ruling establishment.
Nevertheless, the AAC’s request alone does not establish that opposition parties have been denied comparable access or that the APC received preferential treatment. Those questions would require further evidence about the arrangements cited by the party.
What Happens Next?
The key question is whether President Tinubu or the relevant authorities at the Presidential Villa will approve the AAC’s request, and, if so, under what conditions.
The Presidency’s response could clarify whether the proposed inauguration can take place at Aso Rock and whether public resources will be committed to feeding and supporting the expected participants.
Until an official response is made available, the status of the request remains uncertain.
Tarakirivoice Newspaper will continue to follow developments surrounding the AAC’s request and the political preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
