Army Draws the Line in Ugborodo Crisis: “Enough Is Enough” as Troops Take Over Warri Southwest

The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Ugborodo/Ogidigbe Community, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, following rising tensions marked by allegations and counter-allegations among parties in the area.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, Headquarters 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, warned that any attempt to escalate the crisis or undermine public order would not be tolerated
The Brigade said it had taken note of what it described as “sinister attempts” by some actors to prolong the dispute and stressed that troops had already been deployed to the affected community to restore calm.
“Troops have been deployed and the situation has been brought under control effectively. The deployment will remain in place to ensure the sustenance of peace and stability in the area,” the statement said.
The Army reiterated its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property, assuring residents that adequate measures had been put in place to prevent further escalation of the crisis. It added that its ultimate objective was the peaceful resolution of the dispute between all parties involved.
The Brigade also cautioned individuals and groups against dragging soldiers into communal controversies, emphasizing that troops would continue to operate professionally, in line with established rules of engagement and with full respect for the fundamental human rights of citizens.
Speaking through the statement, the Commander of 63 Brigade/Sector 1 Joint Task Force South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
He urged members of the community to provide timely and actionable intelligence on the activities of those he described as “crisis merchants,” expressing confidence that normalcy would soon be fully restored in Warri and its environs.
