Bayelsans Rally Behind Detained Kariyai Daukoru, Launch Weekly ₦100,000 Family Support”

A wave of support has begun to build for the family of detained Bayelsa youth, Kariyai Daukoru, following a public appeal for assistance by his wife.
Bayelsa-based public figure Miebi Bribena announced on Tuesday that he and his associates had fulfilled an earlier promise to support Daukoru’s family, confirming that an initial payment of ₦100,000 had been made to Mrs. Boye Kariyai.
Sharing evidence of the transfer on social media, Bribena disclosed that the group had also committed to sending ₦100,000 every week to assist with the family’s upkeep until Daukoru regains his freedom.
According to him, the gesture is intended to provide relief to the family and encourage Daukoru while he remains in custody.
«”My friends have made good their promise to the wife of Kariyai Daukoru and they promise to send ₦100,000 weekly to support the family upkeep till he is out. This will encourage the young man while in prison. I encourage others to do same,” Bribena wrote.»
A payment receipt circulating online indicated that ₦100,000 was successfully transferred on 29 July 2026 to an account bearing the name Joyous Alagoa Boye, with the narration “Doukoru Family Support.”
The announcement attracted widespread reactions, with many social media users praising the donors for prioritising the welfare of Daukoru’s wife and children.
Several commenters described the intervention as compassionate and timely, while others urged more Bayelsans to contribute towards supporting the family during the ongoing legal proceedings.
One commenter wrote that “empathy is always better than sympathy,” while another described the weekly support as a “commendable gesture.” Others thanked the donors for standing by the family in what they described as a difficult period.
The development comes days after Tarakirivoice reported an emotional open letter by Mrs. Boye Kariyai, who appealed to Bayelsans and social media activist VeryDarkMan for support. In the letter, she alleged that her husband had been unfairly treated in connection with a dispute arising from a scholarship programme and called for public attention to his case.
Those allegations remain contested and have not been determined by a court. The legal proceedings involving Kariyai Daukoru are ongoing.
As public interest in the case continues to grow, the latest financial support highlights how members of the community are responding not only to the legal controversy but also to the immediate welfare needs of Daukoru’s family while the matter remains before the courts.
