BREAKING: Ekeremor Set For Military Takeover? Army Inspects Site For New Battalion Barracks

The Executive Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area, Hon. Onniye Isaac Ziminiyain, Ph.D., has received a high-level delegation of the Nigerian Army led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 16 Brigade, Yenagoa, during an inspection of a proposed site for the establishment of a Battalion Barracks in Ekeremor Community, Bayelsa State.
The visit, which underscores growing efforts to strengthen security architecture in the area, was aimed at assessing the proposed location for the military facility expected to operate under the 16 Brigade.
The Nigerian Army delegation was also accompanied by Brigadier General Eric Angaye (Rtd.), Chief Security Coordinator of Bayelsa State and Coordinator of the Bayelsa State Community Safety Corps.
The proposed Battalion Barracks is expected to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies within Ekeremor Local Government Area, improve response to security challenges and contribute to the protection of residents and communities across the council.
Receiving the delegation, Chairman Onniye expressed the readiness of the Ekeremor Local Government Council to support initiatives capable of promoting peace, security and stability within the local government.
He described security as a critical foundation for meaningful development, noting that the presence of a military formation could further strengthen confidence among residents, businesses and investors in the area.
The council boss also commended the Nigerian Army for its interest in strengthening security operations in Ekeremor and appreciated the Bayelsa State Government under the leadership of Governor Douye Diri for what he described as its commitment to prioritising peace and security across the state.
The inspection marks another step in ongoing efforts to improve security infrastructure in Ekeremor, with stakeholders expected to continue discussions on the proposed military establishment and its eventual development.
Residents and community stakeholders are expected to closely monitor the process, particularly its potential impact on security, economic activities and the protection of lives and property across Ekeremor Local Government Area.
