2027 Rewritten? Atiku Storms ADC, Launches Battle Cry Against APC

By Passman Akpos

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ending months of speculation and igniting a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku was officially registered at his Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State by Senator Sadiq YarAdua, the National Secretary of the ADC Registration and Mobilisation Committee. He received his membership card in the presence of party officials and a crowd of supporters who had been awaiting confirmation of his next political move.

Moments after collecting the card, Atiku declared his switch as the dawn of a new era in opposition politics.

“Now I have picked my membership card of the ADC. Now, the real opposition has begun. We will chase the APC out of government,” he said.

He urged his nationwide support base to immediately register with the ADC, describing the party as a “new political front” capable of reshaping Nigeria’s political trajectory.

The Chairman of ADC in Adamawa State, Shehu Yohanna—who co-supervised the registration—said Atiku’s entry marks the official kickoff of statewide party registration across all local governments and wards. He appealed especially to youths and women to seize the opportunity to join the movement.

Senator YarAdua reinforced the call, urging Nigerians to register, vote, and “take ownership of the nation’s political future.”

The unveiling attracted several key political figures in Adamawa State, including former Governor Bindow Jibrilla, Senator Aishatu Binani, Senator Ahmed Barata, Senator Aziz Nyako and Senator Ishaku Abbo. Their presence signalled a major coalition forming around Atiku within the ADC, setting the stage for what could become one of the most consequential political shifts ahead of 2027.

With his defection now official, all eyes turn to how Atiku’s move will reshape national opposition politics—and whether the ADC can emerge as the new powerhouse he promises it will become.
