Bayelsa Police arrest 2 suspected weed, arms dealers

Operatives of the Anti-kidnapping unit of the Bayelsa State Police Command, has arrested two male for illegal possession of Cannabis suspected to Indian hemp, and one hundred and twenty five rounds of live cartridges.

The names of the two suspected criminals were given as Solomon Ibe, 43 years and Chris Amuka, 23 years.

A statement signed and sent to Tarakiri Voice, on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer

Bayelsa State Command, SP Asinim Butswat, noted that the suspects were arrested while trying to travel in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The statement reads “Following a tip off, Operatives of the Anti-kidnapping unit of Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested one Solomon Ibe 43 years and one Chris Amuka 23 years, at Ovom Waterside, Yenagoa”

The suspects were arrested while trying to ferry one bag of weed suspected to be Indian hemp and one hundred and twenty five rounds of live cartridges, to Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

The Suspects are assisting the Police in its investigation.

The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command CP Mike Okoli fsi, also enjoins members of the public to continue to assist the Police with useful information to curtail crime in the State.

Meanwhile, the special squad of the Bayelsa State Volunteers, a security outfit, in a sting operation, said it has arrested a notorious gangster and a suspected serial rapist.

The suspect identified as Bright Odigon, was said to have been terrorising innocent citizens around the Tombia axis, in the state capital.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspect was arrested after robbing a POS operator, and a barber’s shop at Bossy Water street, in Tombia junction, Monday evening.

He was caught with with clippers and phones taken from his victims at the shop.

We also gathered that the suspected criminal is a member of the Bobos confraternity, who have been on the watch list of the agency for over six months because of his nefarious activities under the Tombia bridge where he rapes his victim at gunpoint.

He was also accused to have severally robbed female students heading to Amassoma University especially at night.

According to the acting Chairman of the agency, Hon. Oyinkuro Lucky Asanakpo, “I am particularly happy that we have been able to apprehend Mr. Odigu who has been on our watch list for a pretty long time. We have been monitoring him all this period, and we also have several others like him who are equally on our list waiting to be arrested unless they repent now.

“Let me use this opportunity to send clear warning signals to all other criminals operating within and outside the Tombia axis, that we shall not relent in carrying out our operations any time of the day from now onwards because of the continued activities of criminals in the city centre”.
