Gov. Diri honours Armed Forces, urges unity

By Victor Akan

Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa has described members of the Armed Forces as a special group dedicated to challenging and dangerous service, paying the ultimate price to ensure the safety and freedom of others.

He made this remark during a thanksgiving service marking the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the King of Glory Chapel, Government House, Yenagoa, on Sunday.

Diri emphasised the importance of honouring both fallen and living members of the Armed Forces, acknowledging their sacrifices for the country and the state.
The governor also urged Bayelsa residents to celebrate the contributions of armed forces personnel, including retired service members.

He stressed the importance of recognising their dedication and sacrifices, noting that they are essential to the peace and stability of the nation.

Diri further advised politicians to accept electoral outcomes with maturity and respect for civil governance to ensure the sustainability of democracy.
He also addressed recent cult clashes in the Igbogene community, directing security to be strengthened, particularly around the new Bayelsa Transport Terminal.

He warned youth groups attempting to extort passengers at the terminal to desist.

Pastor David Yalah, Chaplain of the King of Glory Chapel, in his sermon titled “The Power of Unity,” spoke on the price of unity and the consequences of delays in achieving it.

Tarakirivoice reports that the service was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, legislators, and other state officials.
