The Minister of Youth and Sports, Chief Sunday Dare, says the new Bayelsa International airport will change the economic outlook of the state when in full operations.
Chief Dare was speaking when he was led on a tour of the airport by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Chief Benson Agadaga.
The minister who is in Yenagoa for a 2-day visit to the national camp of the wrestling team preparing for the Olympics, said it was a thing of joy to know that Bayelsa has joined the league of states in the country with an airport of international standard.
“It is gladdening to know that Bayelsa has joined the league of states in our country with such an airport of international standard. But you know beyond the building, what really excites me is the functionality. So, beyond the brick and mortar, you look at the critical equipment they have on the ground.
“I’m happy to see the latest fire fighting equipment already stationed here. We see that the level of functionality is comparable to any other one you see in the world. So for me, it’s a commendation, and I’m sure that the aviation Minister himself will be proud that Bayelsa has such an airport which also helps the image of the country,” He noted.
Chief Dare stated that the airport would ease movement of international investors particularly those involved in oil and gas to the state.
“When you look at Bayelsa State as one of the oil producing states, you look at the number of international investors that come around this region, this airport will serve a massive purpose, and when next I’m coming to Bayelsa, I know I can fly directly, not through Rivers State any longer, so it’s impressive”, he stated.
The Chief of Staff, Government House, Chief Benson Agadaga, said an agreement had been signed with a private airline to commence commercial flight operations soon.
Chief Agadaga, who thanked the Minister for his kind words on the airport assured that, Bayelsa being one of the most peaceful states is ready to receive investors that will enhance its economic development.
Among top government officials on the tour were Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Daniel Igali, Director, New Media to the Governor, Kola Oredipe and Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir. Braveman Wodi.
