Dr. Samuel Ogbuku-Led NDDC Strengthens Maritime Security in the Niger Delta

In a major stride toward enhancing security and development in the Niger Delta, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), under the leadership of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, will officially hand over fully furnished operational facilities to the Nigerian Navy on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Ayakoro Community, Bayelsa State.
The facilities, designed to bolster the Navy’s presence and effectiveness in safeguarding the region’s waterways, include comprehensive administrative and accommodation blocks, a state-of-the-art 40-man houseboat, gunboats, solar-powered systems, and a modern floating jetty, among other vital infrastructure.
According to the NDDC, the initiative underscores the Commission’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across the Niger Delta. By supporting the Nigerian Navy’s operational capabilities, the project aims to strengthen maritime security, protect local communities, and ensure the safe conduct of economic and maritime activities in the region.
Speaking ahead of the event, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku emphasized that the Commission’s collaboration with security agencies is central to its mission of fostering stability and prosperity in the Niger Delta.
“We believe that development cannot thrive without security. By providing these modern facilities, the NDDC is reinforcing its commitment to creating a safer environment where commerce, industry, and community life can flourish,” Dr. Ogbuku stated.
The new infrastructure is expected to significantly improve surveillance, response times, and the overall effectiveness of maritime operations, further curbing criminal activities such as piracy, oil theft, and illegal bunkering in the region’s waterways.
The NDDC’s latest intervention aligns with its broader vision of building partnerships that drive peace, progress, and sustainable development for the people of the Niger Delta.
