Ex-Agitators Petition Tinubu, Demand Probe into Niger Delta Oil Security Contracts

The Niger-Delta Ex-Agitators Movement for Justice and Freedom has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging an immediate investigation into the oil assets security supervisory contract in the region.
In the petition made public on Thursday, the ex-agitators accused those overseeing the oil infrastructure protection contracts of “gross dereliction of duty,” alleging that negligence has enabled widespread crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism to thrive across the Niger Delta.
According to the group, despite billions of naira reportedly allocated to secure critical oil assets, illegal bunkering activities and sabotage have continued unabated — posing a major threat to the nation’s revenue and environmental stability.
The movement called on President Tinubu to constitute a high-level panel to review the operations of the current contractors and determine why oil theft remains rampant despite federal investments in surveillance and protection.
> “The level of neglect and complicity in the management of the oil security contracts is alarming. The Federal Government must act decisively to end the economic sabotage and restore the people’s confidence,” the statement read in part.
The group further warned that continued inaction could worsen insecurity and unrest in the oil-producing communities, stressing that only transparency and accountability would bring lasting peace to the region.
