Hon. Oboku Oforji Honored with Chieftaincy Title at Okordia Kingdom’s Ayaburu Tei Festival

Agbobiri, Yenagoa LGA — It was a day of cultural celebration and recognition as Hon. Oboku Oforji, member representing Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, was conferred with a prestigious chieftaincy title at Agbobiri in Okordia Clan of Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

During the grand finale of the Ayaburu Tei Festival, Hon. Oforji was bestowed the title “AKIDA-IBE EBI DOU-OWEI I of Okordia Kingdom,” which translates to “He who looks for the progress of Okordia Kingdom.” The honor was conferred by the Okordia Council of Chiefs in recognition of his outstanding contributions to community development, cultural promotion, and people-oriented representation.

Hon. Oforji, who also served as Chairman of the Occasion, expressed deep gratitude to the Okordia traditional institution and the people for the honor, describing it as both humbling and inspiring.

> “In my usual commitment to promoting culture and fostering unity through our rich traditions, I encouraged the people for their continued effort in sustaining and maintaining their cultural heritage and beliefs — which remain a strong pillar of unity among the Okordia people,” he said.

He further commended the Okordia Progressive Forum for successfully organizing the 2025 edition of the festival, and lauded the Okordia Council of Chiefs for their dedication to preserving the age-old cultural celebration.

Hon. Oforji noted that the recognition would further motivate him to deliver “effective and people-centered representation” at the National Assembly, pledging continued support for initiatives that strengthen cultural identity and community development.

He also extended heartfelt appreciation for the warmth, hospitality, and reception accorded him by the good people of Okordia.

The Ayaburu Tei Festival, an annual celebration of Okordia heritage, showcased traditional music, dance, and communal rites that highlight the rich cultural tapestry of the kingdom.
