Kidnapped Ibusa Resident Rescued After Fierce Gun Battle in Delta State

By Passman Akpos

A man identified as Christopher Owah has been rescued by security operatives after being kidnapped in front of his residence at Akwualusi, near St. Thomas College, Ibusa, on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

According to a statement released by Harrison Gwamnishu, founder of the Safe City Volunteer Foundation, the victim’s abduction had sparked renewed concerns about the growing menace of armed kidnappers operating across Delta North.

Following the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly demanded ransom from Owah’s family and threatened to kill him if their demands were not met. In a desperate bid to save their loved one, the family proceeded to pay the ransom.

However, leveraging the Foundation’s Tech System Air Surveillance, operatives were able to track the kidnappers to their hideout shortly after the ransom payment. A joint operation involving the 63 Brigade, Asaba, and the National Force for Safe Society (#NFSS) then stormed the location.

> “A fierce gun battle ensued between the kidnappers and the joint team,” Gwamnishu said. “Let’s just say—what happened in the bush, stays in the bush. The kidnapped victim is home and receiving medical treatment.”

The operation resulted in the recovery of ₦7.5 million, believed to be part of the ransom money.

Gwamnishu expressed gratitude to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his continued support toward strengthening local security and delivering on his administration’s promise of ‘More Security for Deltans.’

The Safe City Volunteer Foundation reiterated its commitment to leveraging technology and community vigilance to combat kidnapping and violent crimes across Delta State.
