Bayelsa Lawmaker Raises Concern Over Soaring House Rents in Yenagoa, Other Urban Areas

Member representing Ekeremor Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Tare Porri, has drawn attention to the rising cost of house rents, agency, and legal fees in Yenagoa and other urban centers across the state.
Porri raised the issue on the floor of the Assembly, calling on relevant government agencies to intervene in the matter, which he described as an increasing burden on residents, particularly civil servants and low-income earners.
Reacting to the lawmaker’s motion, public affairs commentator Clement Ovokeroye Paul commended Hon. Porri for his courage in bringing the issue to the fore.
In a statement, Paul said: “Thank you Hon. Tare Porri, member representing Ekeremor Constituency 1, for raising the issue of excessive increase of house rents, agency and legal fees in Yenagoa and other urban towns in the state on the floor of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.”
He emphasized that Porri’s intervention reflects the concerns of many Bayelsans who are struggling with the escalating cost of accommodation and called for policy measures to regulate rent and professional charges in the housing sector.
The development has sparked discussions among residents, with many urging the Assembly to consider legislation that would protect tenants from exploitative rent practices and stabilize the real estate market in Bayelsa State.
