By Passman Akpos

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army / Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim, Alhaji Ali Adamu, during a counter-banditry operation in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State. The rescue mission was part of ongoing efforts under Operation Lafiya Nakowa to flush out bandits and criminal elements from the state.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the operation followed a distress call received by troops stationed in Lau. The report indicated that Alhaji Adamu had been abducted while sleeping outside his compound.

Acting swiftly, the troops mobilized and launched a pursuit of the kidnappers. Realizing that the soldiers were closing in, the criminals abandoned their victim and fled into nearby bushes. The rescued victim was later reunited with his family without any ransom paid.

In a related development, local vigilantes and hunters on patrol around Maraban Kunini apprehended a 30-year-old suspect identified as Mr. Lalau Adamu, alleged to be involved in the abduction. On arrival at the scene, troops discovered that the suspect had sustained injuries from mob action. He was immediately evacuated under military protection to a medical facility for treatment, while investigations continue.

The Commander of 6 Brigade / Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the swift and coordinated efforts between troops, vigilantes, and hunters, describing the rescue as a testament to the value of community cooperation in tackling insecurity

He urged residents of Taraba State to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen the ongoing fight against criminality.

“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and will sustain its efforts to rid Taraba State and its environs of all criminal elements,” the statement added.
