IYC Central Zone Inspires NDU Students with Transformative Leadership Summit

YENAGOA, NIGERIA — A wave of inspiration swept through the Niger Delta University (NDU) Faculty of Law Auditorium earlier yesterday as the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone successfully hosted a high-impact One-Day Student Summit and Leadership Orientation Programme.
The event, which has drawn widespread regional attention and carries a globally resonant message, was themed: “Studentship: A Pathway to Purpose, Passion and Possibilities.” Fully conceived and driven by the Office of the Student Representative, IYC Central Zone, under Comr. Felagha Tombra, the summit sought to redefine how students perceive their academic journey — urging them to see it not merely as a phase of learning, but as the cornerstone for lifelong impact and purposeful leadership.
The highlight of the day came with the keynote address delivered by the distinguished Prof. Pere James Fawei, Esq., whose deep and thought-provoking lecture provided students with practical frameworks for self-discovery, discipline, and goal-setting.
Adding further depth to the conversations, Comr. Igali Robert JP, Director-General, Bayelsa Centre for Youth Development, featured as a guest speaker, sharing crucial insights on youth empowerment, mentorship, and strategic leadership in today’s evolving society.
The summit also featured a lively panel discussion moderated by prominent youth leaders including Amb. Tarasele Collins, Comr. Fidelis Agbogidi, and Hon. Leticia Judge-ere Tarerefa, who challenged participants to embrace innovation, responsibility, and collaboration in their academic and social pursuits.
In a vibrant cultural display, The IITH Unique Dancers thrilled the audience with a colourful performance that celebrated the rich Ijaw heritage. Each participant later received a Certificate of Participation, a gesture that underscored the IYC’s commitment to recognizing youth engagement and excellence.
The summit attracted the presence of key Ijaw dignitaries and council executives, including Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, President IYC Worldwide; Comr. Victor Gow, National Financial Secretary IYC; Comr. Nicholas Igarama, Chairman IYC Western Zone; Comr. Daotolu, Chairman IYC Eastern Zone; and Comr. Ebilade Ekerefe, Former Spokesman IYC, among several others who came to show solidarity and mentorship support.
A key highlight of the day was the unveiling of the Special IYC Crested Notebooks, distributed to all attendees as part of the Council’s educational support initiative.
The well-attended summit brought together student representatives from various clans within the IYC Central Zone, alongside Student Union leaders and members of the wider student community — marking a renewed spirit of unity, purpose, and leadership readiness among Ijaw youths.
With the resounding success of the programme, the IYC Central Zone has solidified its position as a driving force in youth development, mentorship, and leadership training, setting a promising course for the next generation of Ijaw leaders.
