China Opposes Foreign Interference, Pledges Support for Nigeria’s Fight Against Terrorism

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Nigeria’s ongoing battle against terrorism and its broader efforts to safeguard national stability.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, Dunhai said China remains committed to deepening security cooperation with Nigeria as part of their longstanding strategic partnership.
The envoy’s remarks followed his meeting with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, where both officials discussed strengthening counterterrorism collaboration and enhancing bilateral relations.
Dunhai highlighted that since President Bola Tinubu’s participation in the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and his subsequent state visit to China last year, the two nations have recorded “fruitful outcomes” in several areas of cooperation contributing to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.
> “As a comprehensive strategic partner of Nigeria, China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people to a development path that fits Nigeria’s national realities,” the ambassador wrote.
He also stressed China’s strong opposition to any form of external interference in the internal affairs of sovereign nations, particularly when disguised as concerns for religion or human rights.
> “We oppose any country’s interference in other countries’ internal affairs under the pretext of religion and human rights. We oppose the wanton threat of sanction and use of force,” Dunhai said.
Reiterating Beijing’s position, the ambassador added that China would continue to work closely with Nigeria to strengthen security cooperation, combat terrorism, and promote peace and stability across the country.
The latest remarks come as Nigeria continues to seek greater international collaboration in addressing the persistent threats of insurgency and violent extremism in parts of the country.
