Controversy as Nigerians Debate Alleged Army Privilege for Yerima’s Son

By Passman Akpos

In a recent social media outburst, Dr. Kemi criticized what she described as the “quick forgetfulness” of Nigerians regarding accountability in the military. Her comments targeted the perceived preferential treatment of a young man, reportedly the son of Senator Yerima, claiming he would have faced a court martial if he were a regular officer in the Armed Forces.

According to Dr. Kemi, the young man’s relationship with Yerima has shielded him from scrutiny by Governor Nyesom Wike, whom she accuses of being powerless in the matter. “Yerima is a military dictator. Always blocking journalists on Twitter. Wike won’t mess with him,” she said, questioning the ethics of military personnel restricting press freedom.

Dr. Kemi also took aim at the former army spokesmen, Yerima and Musa, labeling them as “the worst spokesmen for the Nigerian Army.” She contrasted this with the practices of the U.S. Army, noting, “The @USArmy never blocks us. They are to protect and serve.

She further recalled historical grievances involving Wike, stating that during his tenure as Minister of Education in his state, he allegedly blocked Chibok girls from taking their WAEC exams after a confrontation with former Governor Shettima, which preceded the tragic kidnapping of the girls.

Dr. Kemi concluded her remarks with a critique of the cyclical nature of governance in Nigeria, warning that the public often cheers their oppressors.

The post has sparked heated debates on social media, with many Nigerians weighing in on issues of military accountability, press freedom, and political favoritism.
