Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the ongoing Gas Turbine Power Project in the state, describing it as a major step toward achieving steady and reliable electricity supply for Bayelsans.
Governor Diri, who inspected the project site on Wednesday, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the gas-powered facility to ensure that residents and businesses across the state enjoy uninterrupted power supply.
According to him, the initiative aligns with his vision of a more industrialized and economically vibrant Bayelsa, powered by sustainable energy. “We are determined to provide clean and reliable power for our people. This gas turbine project is a key part of that commitment, and I’m pleased with the progress so far,” the governor said.
Citizens Applaud Diri’s Leadership
Following the inspection, many Bayelsans took to social media to commend Governor Diri for what they described as one of the most impactful projects in the state’s history.
One resident wrote, “I love our miracle governor, especially in the area of road construction. The Opolo–Elebele Road will be even more beautiful when linked directly to the Elebele Bridge, especially with the gas turbine street lights lighting up the entire street at night.”
Another citizen added, “Nice one. God bless Governor Diri. All houses in Bayelsa should be metered to pay for the gas turbine energy consumption. Those who refuse to pay should be disconnected immediately once the system becomes fully operational.”
Others praised the project’s potential to revive the state’s energy sector. “Joy is coming back to Bayelsa. We’ll once again enjoy and celebrate light. Thank you, my governor, Senator Douye Diri,” one comment read.
Calls for More Infrastructure Support
While expressing gratitude, some residents urged the state government to complement the gas turbine project with additional infrastructure.“Most places in the state need new transformers to fully enjoy the gas turbine’s benefits. The NDDC can help with installing transformers across the state capital,” a respondent suggested.
“Mr Project” and “People’s Governor”
Governor Diri was also hailed as “Mr Project” by residents who commended his developmental strides.“Good news! Thank you, Your Excellency, for the new gas turbine station. Indeed, you are Mr Project and the people’s governor of Bayelsa State,” a supporter said.
Another resident urged the state government to retain control of the facility, warning, “The government shouldn’t make the mistake of handing this facility to PHCN.”
Sustaining the Promise of Light
For many Bayelsans, the gas turbine project represents more than just infrastructure — it symbolizes renewed hope.“You are indeed a miracle governor. Thank you, sir, for this project. God bless and keep you safe,” one message read, while another concluded, “Thank you for keeping your promise. More grace to you, Your Excellency.”
With the gas turbine project nearing completion, residents say they are optimistic that the initiative will restore the long-lost stability of power supply across Bayelsa, ushering in what many call “a new dawn of light.”
