‘Tinubu Already Shadow-Reelected’ — Omokri Mocks PDP After Chaotic Convention

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri says the fallout from the Peoples Democratic Party’s disputed convention in Ibadan proves the opposition is too broken to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Despite having only eight governors, the PDP managed to present what Omokri called a “divided and decadent house.” Only five governors attended the convention, while 13 states boycotted and Kwara delegates walked out. Even more damaging, convention chairman Ahmadu Fintiri and Plateau’s Caleb Mutfwang publicly rejected one of the key resolutions — the alleged expulsion of Nyesom Wike.
Omokri contrasted this with the rancour-free APC NEC meeting, attended by all states and seamlessly ratifying a new national chairman. With the ruling party controlling over 25 governors, and two PDP governors reportedly preparing to defect, he said the opposition has “no pathway to victory.”
According to Omokri, Tinubu’s economic record — from GDP growth and improved ratings by S&P and Fitch to falling inflation and a stronger naira — has further solidified his position. He also argued that the President’s increased federal allocations leave opposition governors with little incentive to fight him.
“If Tinubu won in 2023 with twenty governors and a hostile Federal Government,” Omokri said, “how can anyone think he’ll lose in 2027 with almost thirty governors behind him? Tinubu is as good as reelected.”
