“Outrage as Rev. Dachomo’s Accounts Vanish While Gumi Stays Untouched”

.........Rev. Dachomo’s Social Media Accounts Deleted, Supporters Allege Targeting and Bias in Content Moderation

By Passman Akpos

Abuja, Nigeria — A wave of outrage erupted online on Saturday after Pastor and activist Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo reportedly lost access to all his social media accounts, including Facebook. The development was made public by commentator Isaac Show, who said he received an unexpected phone call from the cleric informing him that his platforms had been deleted.

According to Show, Rev. Dachomo claimed he was notified that his content was considered to “jeopardise national security of the Nigerian government.” He further alleged that the takedown happened immediately after receiving the alert.

> “So we’re not going to get updates directly from his social media handles,” Show lamented, adding that his own Facebook page had been shadow-banned with reduced visibility.

The incident sparked an avalanche of reactions from followers, activists, and online commentators who accused authorities of discriminatory censorship. Many argued that while Dachomo’s accounts were removed, controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi—a figure often criticized for his comments on banditry—remained active on Facebook and continued posting freely.

Supporters said this disparity fuels long-standing fears among Christian communities that they are being unfairly targeted.

> “And you still want to tell me there is no Christian genocide going on in Nigeria?” Show wrote, stressing that Dachomo’s deletion was part of “the price we pay for following Jesus Christ and speaking the truth.”

Social Media Reactions: Claims of Government Interference, Mass Reporting, and Bribery

The comment section quickly turned into a storm of accusations and speculation:

“Ndi’ojo must have ganged up to report his page,” one user claimed.

Another insisted, “The federal government through telecommunication can just ask for the page to be removed.”

Others alleged bribery: “Maybe they went to bribe the country director of Facebook Africa.”

Several commenters said “data boys” or government-linked cyber units may have flagged the account.

Some attributed the deletion to coordinated mass reporting:

> “Muslims massively reported his page,” one commenter wrote.

Another user criticized the perceived double standard regarding Gumi:

> “While Gumi and his partners are busy online dishing gibberish… Facebook hasn’t touched them.”

With anger rising, many encouraged Rev. Dachomo to migrate platforms:

“Let him go over to X.”

“He should open TikTok.”

“Facebook is heavily censored and controlled by the state.”

Others urged him to keep speaking regardless of platform restrictions.

> “They only deleted his Facebook account but they never deleted his voice.”

Facebook Yet to Comment

As of press time, Facebook (Meta) has not issued any statement confirming the reason for the alleged deletion of the cleric’s accounts. Nigerian authorities have also not responded to the claims of involvement.

The situation continues to stir debate over digital rights, religious tensions, and government influence on online content moderation—issues that have increasingly shaped Nigeria’s social media landscape.
