Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, on Tuesday made history as he boarded the state’s newly acquired aircraft during its inaugural flight from Abuja to Yenagoa, marking a significant milestone in the state’s aviation and economic development agenda.
The aircraft, which is part of the government’s effort to enhance connectivity and boost the state’s business environment, was unveiled to applause as Governor Diri joined officials and dignitaries on the maiden trip to the Bayelsa International Airport.
According to the state government, the aircraft will be operated and managed by Pioneer Airlines, a private aviation firm engaged to ensure professional handling, maintenance, and commercial viability of the asset.
Governor Diri described the acquisition as “a bold investment in Bayelsa’s future,” noting that improved air transportation would stimulate economic growth, attract investors, and ease travel for residents and visitors.
He added that the partnership with Pioneer Airlines is designed to ensure efficiency and sustainability in the operation of the aircraft.
The inaugural flight is expected to pave the way for increased flight frequencies into the state and reinforce Bayelsa’s position as an emerging hub in the Niger Delta aviation corridor.
