“Highways or Housing? Wike’s Controversial Construction Sparks Outrage in Abuja”

By Paul Ebi

Abuja – Popular activist Adeyanju Deji has raised fresh concerns over what he describes as “another madness” by former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in the Federal Capital Territory.

In a social media post, Deji revealed that construction is ongoing on what appears to be residential housing on a green area near the FCT Minister’s office, right beside a major highway. “Each time I pass there, I kept asking what they are building. How will people drive in and out of the place since it is in-between two highways?” he wrote.

Deji further noted a similar project in Wuse 2 along Niafounke Street, describing it as nonsensical and contributing to congestion in green zones. He suggested that if the FCT Minister were to witness the developments personally, the projects might be halted.

“The real estate business is real business… Wike trying to invest in every part of Abuja including Aso Rock,” Deji added humorously, highlighting the controversial spread of the construction projects.

The post has sparked a mix of reactions online. Some criticized the perceived hypocrisy, recalling Wike’s previous attempts to regulate urban development, while others found humor in the apparent contradiction. One commentator wrote, “You are very funny sir… why are you complaining now?”

The debate raises questions about urban planning, preservation of green spaces, and accountability in the FCT, as construction continues in areas historically meant to remain open and accessible.
