“Nation in Shock as Prison Escapee Butchers Human Rights Volunteer in Delta — Nigerians Explode in Anger!”

By Passman Akpos

Nigeria has been thrown into mourning and anger following the tragic killing of Christabel Aminu, a human rights volunteer from Agbor, Delta State, who was murdered in her home by a prison escapee identified as Michael Ezeuwali.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu announced the devastating incident in a public statement, confirming that the suspect—who had previously escaped custody—had been re-arrested by the Delta State Police Command.

> “While I appreciate the swift efforts of the Delta State Police Command in arresting the suspect, I appeal that he be promptly charged to court to face justice for his crime,” Gwamnishu said, tagging the Nigeria Police Force and the Delta State Ministry of Justice.

He also clarified widespread speculation, stressing that Christabel was not a member of his security volunteer team, nor was her death connected to his advocacy work.

But the news sparked a wildfire of reactions online, with Nigerians expressing grief, fury, and deep concern over persistent prison breaks and rising risks faced by activists, volunteers, journalists, and security workers.

🔥 NIGERIANS REACT: “STOP POSTING YOUR TEAM ONLINE — YOU’RE PUTTING THEM IN DANGER!”

A major wave of reactions criticized the public display of volunteers and security teams on social media, warning that criminal elements may exploit such exposure.

One user wrote:

> “Security job is risky. Many perpetrators hate security personnel. Stop showing their faces online. You are putting them at risk.”

Another added:

> “Your team should operate with masks. Nigeria is too unsafe for your location and identity to be online.”

💔 “THIS IS HEARTBREAKING… MAY HER SOUL REST IN PEACE”

Messages of grief poured in:

> “Deeply heartbreaking. May Christabel’s soul rest in peace.”“Omg, how did this happen? Harrison, please be careful. Those doing good in this country are always targets.”

🔥 SUSPICIONS RISE: “HOW DID HE ESCAPE? DID HE PAY HIS WAY OUT?”

Many expressed disbelief at how a repeat offender managed to return to the streets.

> “Did he escape or was he released to do this?”“Prison escapee again? This country tire me.”

Some commenters called for investigation into the correctional system:

> “All correctional officers on duty when he escaped must be arrested and charged with negligence.”

⚠️ Calls for Justice & Tougher Measures

Some voices demanded harsher consequences:

> “This man should have been sent straight to his maker. How many times will he escape and kill again?”“People like this do not need to be re-arrested. They need jungle justice.”

Others condemned the cycle of arrest–remand–escape:

> “Escape, kill, arrest, remand… escape again. When will it stop?”

🔎 CLARIFICATIONS: “SHE WAS A HUMAN RIGHTS VOLUNTEER, NOT SECURITY PERSONNEL”

Supporters reminded others of the actual context:

> “She’s a human rights volunteer, not a security operative. Don’t mix it up with Harrison’s security team.”

📌 THE BIG QUESTION: IS ANYONE SAFE?

This tragedy has reignited national debate over:

Nigeria’s failing correctional system

The safety of activists, journalists, and volunteers

Government negligence in preventing repeated prison breaks

Growing insecurity across the country

As the public demands swift prosecution of the suspect, another painful truth hangs in the air: Christabel’s death could have been prevented.
