“PSC Set to Recruit 50,000 Police Officers: Promises Fairness, Gender Inclusivity, and Unity for All Nigerians”

Abuja – The Police Service Commission (PSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and inclusive recruitment process for 50,000 new police officers into the Nigeria Police Force.

A strategic stakeholders meeting convened on Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, at the PSC headquarters in Abuja brought together representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Federal Character Commission. The meeting focused on ensuring a seamless recruitment exercise anchored on fairness, equity, and merit.

In his opening remarks, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), represented by DIG (Dr) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), fdc, emphasized the Commission’s dedication to openness and inclusivity, aimed at strengthening the capacity and diversity of the police force. DIG Lakanu also serves as Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters.

Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, expressed optimism over the collaboration and assured full support from the Ministry.

Key resolutions from the meeting include:

Federal Character Compliance: Ensuring equitable representation from all states and geopolitical zones in accordance with the Constitution.

Gender Inclusivity: Encouraging and facilitating the recruitment of qualified female candidates.

Transparency and Technology: Implementing a technology-driven recruitment process that will be publicly accessible and free from undue interference.

The agencies agreed to work in synergy to uphold the integrity of the recruitment, promote national unity, and meet the expectations of Nigerians.

The PSC assured prospective applicants that the exercise would be conducted with the highest level of accountability and in compliance with all relevant laws and guidelines. Further details and timelines for the recruitment process will be announced in due course.
